GOD USES ORDINARY PEOPLE

      GOD USES ORDINARY PEOPLE
A Sermon delivered during a child dedication of Chizom from Umuozoche Igbodo Etche R/S

But the Lord Said: Go, for Saul is my chosen Instrument to take my message to the Gentiles and Kings as well as the people of Israel –Acts 9:15
           Reading Texts: Acts 14:8-12, 1Samuel 17:40-51

Glory be to the name of the Most High God who made heaven and earth. He sent His only Son to come and die for entire humanity. He is the Lord and the reason that we are here today. It is only by His grace and unfailing love to be alive in this world of terror, anarchy and tragedies.
Our message today will graphically depict God’s nature of love and wills to select people of less importance in a society to perfect His word.

From the scripture, Paul was known as a troublesome person who wanted to execute the Christians at a time, but God averted his purpose by teaching him a lesson. Paul learnt that there is God. And then he repented because God has chosen him as His instrument to take his message to a people that do not know Him. He became a committed believer in spite of problems and obstacles. He was once slapped on the face by the orders of the high Priest called Ananias— Acts23:2 for preaching the message he was called on. The problem that Paul bumped into for the sake of the gospel did not stop him from what he believed. His devotion, faith and the love to preach the gospel really indicate that he was a true born again believer and God was so much with him.

Paul and Barnabas who were among the followers of the Lord Jesus Christ by faith were in a city called Lystra and they came across a crippled man. This crippled man had been in his terrible condition right from his birth. Probably he has been hearing the word of God before he was preached to by Paul. Now, Paul saw that this man has the faith to be healed and he shouted in a loud voice: “Stand up! And the man jumped to his feet and started walking – Acts 14:9-10. Thus, the call that the ordinary man called Paul received from Christ was that of power for healings and courage not to relent in preaching the message.

The healing of the ordinary man — the crippled man by ordinary man — Paul for extra-ordinary task baffled the whole crowd in Lystra. This made them to shout in their local vernacular that such Paul and Barnabas are gods in human form — Acts 14:11. They called Barnabas, Jupiter – a Greek god called Zeus and Paul was called Mercurius — Hermes because he was the chief speaker.
Now can we see the ordinary people God has chosen to do extra-ordinary tasks? Thus, what human beings look down is what God uses for mighty things. The kind of people God uses must be—

A.  People that are committed in spite of troubles and obstacles: Despite the fact that Paul was slapped on the face by the directives of Ananias the high priest and was lashed with whips — Acts 23:2, 22:24, he still committed himself to take the message to the Gentiles and Israel. We, the contemporary Christians need to commit ourselves to work for God; we should not relent or stop from preaching the gospel when there are obstacles. The obstacles may come from brothers, sisters, parents, husbands, wives and or our personal affairs with this world.

B. People who are willing and committed in spite of oppositions:  These people must be willing to uphold the truth even when people are against them. Paul stood on the ground that he was called to preach the message and the message he preached some Roman officers and Jews were opposing him and in spite of this opposition, Paul did not stop preaching the truth. The scripture says: Buy the truth, and sell it not — Prov. 23:23

C.  People who are willing to accept all sorts of mockery and ridicules: Even, our Lord Jesus was ridiculed by the Jews. He was beaten and lashed with whips just like Paul. He was ridiculed as the King of the Jews when He was facing trials and unto His death. People who are not willing and touched by the Spirit of power and Courage can never resist ridicules. Some of us are like that, when people ridicule us, we begin to look for a way to sue them to court and some wicked ones might decide to poison them. Thus, when we are ridiculed because of the gospel, we should not revenge for vengeance is of the Lord.

We are ordinary people called by God through His Son Jesus Christ. We should strictly adhere and abide to the teachings of Jesus and by doing so, more powers will be granted to us. As Paul healed the crippled man born right from his birth, God will perfect His miracles and wonders in our lives. Those who are spiritually crippled will be healed and those who are physically or bodily crippled will also receive their healings in Jesus name, Amen.

We may wonder why our business is crippled down, how it is no longer booming as it used to be. Believe in God, your business will once again starting from today be flourishing in Jesus name, Amen.

Brethren, let all our trust be channeled in the Lord Jesus Christ and it will be well with our souls. May God see you through as you hear this message today.

 ———Meditation Point————
LORD I pray that any power that has crippled my life, business and my academics let it receive fire in the name of Jesus and from today I’m healed, amen!

REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

Remember Who You Are, a sermon preached by Fortune Nwaiwu Introduction A little girl grew under the care of her guardian, Janet, due to she had lost her father, an Anglican priest and her mum could not provide for the family. Before the death of her father, her father called Janet, her guardian, and handed her over to her to take care of her. As this little child was growing, she became very much acquainted with new modern technologies in her guardian’s house, and tended to live a luxurious life, using make ups, fixing her eye lashes, and fingernails. One day, as she dressed up for a night club, and it happened it was her first time to go for the club, Mrs. Janet sat her down and said, “Remember who you are. You were born to a Christian family, and bred in a Christian family too. Why do you tend to live a worthless life, a life that would never transform your spiritual life? How soon have you forgotten that you are a pastor’s child? You now wear trousers, artificial hair, fixing your ...

JESUS IS KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR

Jesus  is Knocking  A sermon preached by Fortune Nwaiwu on Sun. 9th June, 2019. Introduction : There are different varieties of doors. We have interior doors, exterior doors, glass doors, and wooden doors. But in all, the door that Jesus Christ is Knocking on is your very HEART. Heart is a domain of forces, supposedly a dwelling home of God. Jesus is eager and meek to come into your heart and dwell in there to feed you with good thoughts nourishing your soul to keep it secure from danger and sin, and to give it life in abundance but Satan is aggressively fighting to steal it. Jesus Christ says: ‘The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly', John 10:10 NHEB. There are people whose souls have been stolen by Satan with the wealth of this world, and they tend to believe that they have gotten all they want in life. Such people are not only unbelievers but also some church members. Their belief in self-satisfac...

Where is the God of Elijah?

sermon 3.   Where is the God of Elijah? A sermon preached on Friday, 21/12/2018 “Elisha picked up Elijah’s cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah’s cloak and cried out, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” Then the river divided, and Elisha went across”─ 2 Kings 2:13. As you have been here tonight, singing and praising God, the prayers we had made so far have been answered by God. Your needs tonight will be provided for you. Say amen! Our message comes inform of a question, which calls for the expectation of absolute answers. Literary critics may term it a rhetorical question─ a question that doesn’t demand for any answer.   But, for the reason that you are here tonight for Jesus the message will yield positive answers for us. You may have heard many things God did through Elijah, sparing him from the wrath of Queen Jezebel who vowed to kill him by all mean...
