TAKE NOT YOUR HOLY SPIRIT AWAY FROM ME

(A Sermon Preached by Rev. Fortune E.C. Nwaiwu)

“Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take away your Holy Spirit from me”   ——Psalm 51:11 NLT.

The great man in battle who sees in the open and secret places who forgives sin, we worship you this very moment for there is none like you. You are beyond equal. You are above human imagination!
Chorus —    You are the Lord, that is your name
  And you will never share your glory with any man;
You will never share your glory with anybody,
Almighty God that is your name.

Brethren, today is a wonderful day for the glory of God. I want to tell you that when one is banished from the presence of God, it implies that God’s Holy Spirit has deserted the one. When King Saul became disobedient unto God’s instruction to kill everything both animal and human being of Amalek, God deserted him because he spared the life of King Agag who had made so many women childless— 1 Samuel 15:33.  Consequent upon this crime of disobedient, King David who became the second King of Israel after God had abandoned Saul realized the monumental effects of his crime he committed with Uriah’s wife. He cried unto God not to banish him and take away his Holy Spirit from him

Some pieces of melodious Psalms are composed for praises, worship, and for expression of thanksgiving, gratitude and penitence. David felt like God was about to abandon him just like what he did to the past or former king, Saul. His expression of penitence in Psalm 51:11 really implies that if God would punish him and do everything that pleases him, he should not take away the Holy Spirit from him because David recognized the significance of the God’s Holy Spirit in humanity.

God’s Holy Spirit does not dwell in the body of the wicked including the murderers and those that live in sexual impurity or immorality. When Cain murdered his brother, he was banished from God’s presence even at the time Adam and Eve sinned against God; they were immediately driven and banished from the Eden. The Garden of Eden was figuratively taken as a place where God’s Holy Spirit and presence dwelled and now that the couples have been found guilty of disobedience, they became desolate and ran here and there for protection and coverage. As their eyes were been opened; they realized their nakedness and ran away from God’s calling. It was their sin that found them out – Number 32:23. However, God did not entirely take away his Holy Spirit from them as he sew clothes for them and promised them that the seed of a woman shall bruise the head of the serpent the deceiver who lures man to sin unto God- Gen. 3:15. This is the proto-evangelium — the genesis of the gospel prophesy spoken about the birth of Jesus Christ

Brethren, the point that we should take note of is that whatever you ask God to do for you, he will do it. David asked pleadingly that God should not take away His Holy spirit from him and God listened. Why do you think that God is no longer with you because of your sins? If you are heavy laden with burdensome of sins come to God and he will no longer forsake you. He came for the sinners and not for the righteous. He says: “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest”— Matt.11:28 NET. If you want his presence in your life, come to him and he will welcome you. You are so dear and precious to him that is why he doesn’t want you to perish with your wickedness. He is so faithful and able to forgive you. It does not matter how many people you have killed, poisoned and hindered their progress. But what matters is how you’re willing to surrender your life to Christ before it is too late. He is calling you now!

You may feel that you have committed a lot of abortion and there’re no remedies to your crimes. This should not be an excuse. Return to Him and he’ll return to you — Malachi 3:7.

When the Spirit of God is no longer with us, we suffer a lot of terror, tension and tragedies. God warned Eli and his sons Hophni and Phinehas to desist from their wicked ways and they adhered not. It made the Spirit of the Living God to desert them and their family perished. This induced the wife of Phinehas to suddenly have her baby as when she heard that God’s Ark was captured. She died after christening her baby Ichabod which means the glory of God has departed from Israel. The Ark of God acted as the representation of God’s Holy Spirit because it symbolizes God’s presence and covenant with Israel. Now the glory has departed what happened? Phinehas and Hophni died in the battle field which led to the death of Eli and a daughter in-law suffered from pains of pregnancy and slumped and died.

If we know that the Spirit of God has gone out from us, we should humble ourselves and pray like David for God to restore the joy of his salvation unto us — Psalm 51:12. And now he’ll transform and reform you. He will now use you as a vessel of honour unto the nation that fears Him not. Just like David humbled himself and God’s honour was bestowed on him and God says: David is a man after my heart – 1 Samuel 13:14 because even when David sins, he plays guitar unto God which touches the heart of God. He channels his penance into a song of forgiveness. Then when we show remorse of the wrongs we do, God will forgive and when the forgiveness is granted, you’ll become a man or woman after God’s heart.  You’ll now be predisposed to the spiritual benefits of life.

Brethren, our prayer today is that let not God take away His Holy Spirit from us so that we may dwell in his sanctuary throughout all the days of our lives in Jesus Name, Amen.

————Meditation Point——————
Cast me not off in the time of old age, forsake me not when my strength faileth”—Psalm71:9 KJV. This I pray through our Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour, amen!

REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

Remember Who You Are, a sermon preached by Fortune Nwaiwu Introduction A little girl grew under the care of her guardian, Janet, due to she had lost her father, an Anglican priest and her mum could not provide for the family. Before the death of her father, her father called Janet, her guardian, and handed her over to her to take care of her. As this little child was growing, she became very much acquainted with new modern technologies in her guardian’s house, and tended to live a luxurious life, using make ups, fixing her eye lashes, and fingernails. One day, as she dressed up for a night club, and it happened it was her first time to go for the club, Mrs. Janet sat her down and said, “Remember who you are. You were born to a Christian family, and bred in a Christian family too. Why do you tend to live a worthless life, a life that would never transform your spiritual life? How soon have you forgotten that you are a pastor’s child? You now wear trousers, artificial hair, fixing your ...

JESUS IS KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR

Jesus  is Knocking  A sermon preached by Fortune Nwaiwu on Sun. 9th June, 2019. Introduction : There are different varieties of doors. We have interior doors, exterior doors, glass doors, and wooden doors. But in all, the door that Jesus Christ is Knocking on is your very HEART. Heart is a domain of forces, supposedly a dwelling home of God. Jesus is eager and meek to come into your heart and dwell in there to feed you with good thoughts nourishing your soul to keep it secure from danger and sin, and to give it life in abundance but Satan is aggressively fighting to steal it. Jesus Christ says: ‘The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly', John 10:10 NHEB. There are people whose souls have been stolen by Satan with the wealth of this world, and they tend to believe that they have gotten all they want in life. Such people are not only unbelievers but also some church members. Their belief in self-satisfac...

Where is the God of Elijah?

sermon 3.   Where is the God of Elijah? A sermon preached on Friday, 21/12/2018 “Elisha picked up Elijah’s cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah’s cloak and cried out, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” Then the river divided, and Elisha went across”─ 2 Kings 2:13. As you have been here tonight, singing and praising God, the prayers we had made so far have been answered by God. Your needs tonight will be provided for you. Say amen! Our message comes inform of a question, which calls for the expectation of absolute answers. Literary critics may term it a rhetorical question─ a question that doesn’t demand for any answer.   But, for the reason that you are here tonight for Jesus the message will yield positive answers for us. You may have heard many things God did through Elijah, sparing him from the wrath of Queen Jezebel who vowed to kill him by all mean...
