WHEN LITTLE BECOMES MUCH

₦sermon 1
(A Sermon Preached by Fortune Emerence Chinemerem Nwaiwu)

“And though you started with little, you will end with much”— Job 8:7 NLT

The scriptures are copiously clad with enormous comfort to the believers. Today, we shall look at what God has to offer us through our message. It pains me most to see some people struggling with little and yet murmur and forget that God perfects his miraculous power with little things. We should not despise our little beginnings.

The scripture plainly tells us that the crowds that were following Jesus for three days have nothing to eat and Jesus really felt sorry for them. He says to his disciples “I don’t want to send them away hungry, or they will faint along the way”— Matthew 15:32.

One thing about our Lord Jesus Christ is that he is always compassionate about our situations. This fact remains clear because the crowd had exhausted all they came with for feeding in course of the three days powerful packed crusade, and he noticed how they had become weary and hungry. Nobody told him but with his foresightedness coupled with his benevolent character full of mercy and grace, he came to know that those who came for the crusade to hear him preach the WORD of GOD to them were about leaving with empty stomach. He then asked his disciples if there is still remaining of some food that he might use and feed the crowd. Though, his disciples responded that they have only but seven loaves of bread and a few small fish, they might think within themselves that the little bread and fish would not be enough to feed the crowd of 4000 people, but Christ surprised them by revealing the true nature of God who works with little things. He then asked his disciples to tell the crowd to settle down. He took the little seven loaves of bread and a few small fish from his disciples and lifted them up to his Father in heaven. He prayed and God listened by showing the crowd a mystery behind little things that men of the world despise. Thus, the little things that men of the world despise are what God uses for great things. Christ handed what the men of the world say it is little to his disciples to distribute to the hungry crowd. At this moment, the minds of the hungry crowd might have echoed, “ah!” What will be the need to wait again for this little food because before it could reach us, the food might get finished and even if we eat, it will not be to our fill, and therefore, we are still hungry. All this was not counted to them as a sin rather, Jesus said to his disciples, “distribute” after breaking the food into smaller parts. Ministers of God should see themselves as distributors of God’s blessings and feed their flock with the word of God, and give them food when the need arises. I tell you, the huge hungry crowd ate as much as they wanted and there were some leftovers — seven large baskets of left-over food.

The miracle should not be a thing of a surprise because our Lord Jesus is the truth, the way and life. He is God. It is only a great God like Christ that can do such a miracle. When a man does it by faith, then it can be a thing of surprise. To Christ, he does everything. Can anything be too difficult for God to do? No! Though, Christ prayed over the little food, such prayer was offered by faith. And what happened there after? The little food becomes much! Thus, your little will become much as long as you put it in the master’s care.

Note: The crowd left their home, property, office, and then followed Jesus. It got to a point, this crowd became hungry and weary and Christ began to feel sorry for them. Why? This is because the crowd had been following him for three days and Jesus is not an unjust master who does neither care nor feel pity for the need of his people. It was a time that the crowd needed to go that Christ noticed how hunger had weighed them down. He was full of compassion and could not let them go without eating anything because they came to hear the good News of the kingdom of God. For the sake of the ones who came for the kingdom of God, the little food was made much for them. This however intimates us that when we seek the face of our gracious God in prayer for the little we have, he will manifest his glorious power over it and it will become much. Just like the case of Jabez who had insignificant reputation, and as he cried to God in prayer for God to enlarge his coast, his little became much. God enlarged his coast.

The truth is that God uses the little things we have to do an extra-ordinary miracle in our lives. In the book of 2 Kings 4, there was a poor widow whose husband was one of the servants of Elisha. When this poor widow’s husband died, a creditor came and threatened to enslave her two sons and she ran to meet with Elisha, the man of God to bemoan her ugly and ordeal circumstances. She told Elisha about the problem that she was facing. Probably, the poor widow might be expecting the man of God to lend her some money as to settle the debt which her husband had incurred. But the man of God Elisha asked her: “Tell me what you have in the house?” and the woman replied, “Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil”— 2 Kings 4:2. The woman’s response to the man of God is what is obtainable from the mouth of wretched people who are struck with poverty. This is because when you ask some people what they have, they’ll tell you, “nothing at all” because the little they have is not meeting up or solving their problems. Your little can never solve your problem unless it is committed to the hands of the great divine Numen. We should know that the poor widow did not go elsewhere to broadcast her problem but rather, she ran to complain to a man of God and God showed her a way out. Thus, we should all learn to cast all our problems to Christ for him alone to bear them for us than to complaining to the children of this evil generation. Your little can only be greatly increased if we take it to God in prayer and with much faith. Faith is the weapon a poor man should have for his divine up-liftment. With faith in God, your little beginning will be greatly increased.

Elisha said to the poor widow; “borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbours. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. “Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting each one aside when it is filled”—2 Kings 4:3-4 NLT

Poverty is a deadly disease. Even, this poor widow did not have an empty container of her own and she borrowed. She was like somebody who lives in borrowing. Borrowing is one of the identifiable characteristics of poor wretched women. They always borrow from neighbours. Even when they want to cook, salt or pepper will always become a problem to them and they resort in borrowing. But when would you stop living from borrowing? This is when your little becomes much! And I pray that in your quest to be liberated, you will end with much.

The poor widow went home and did exactly what the man of God told her and the little olive oil she had began to flow. This is how your little will be flowing for your greatness from this year hence forth as long as you always obey God and put your faith in Him. I tell you the woman went back to Elisha and told him what had happened. The man of God said to him to sell them and clear her late husband debt. The little became much to pay a debt.
—————————————Meditation Point————————————————
Lord Jesus, come into my life and transform me. Let my little become much. Change my ugly stories and then open a new page for my blessings. From today hence forth, I pray that my little will become much, in Jesus name, amen.

REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

Remember Who You Are, a sermon preached by Fortune Nwaiwu Introduction A little girl grew under the care of her guardian, Janet, due to she had lost her father, an Anglican priest and her mum could not provide for the family. Before the death of her father, her father called Janet, her guardian, and handed her over to her to take care of her. As this little child was growing, she became very much acquainted with new modern technologies in her guardian’s house, and tended to live a luxurious life, using make ups, fixing her eye lashes, and fingernails. One day, as she dressed up for a night club, and it happened it was her first time to go for the club, Mrs. Janet sat her down and said, “Remember who you are. You were born to a Christian family, and bred in a Christian family too. Why do you tend to live a worthless life, a life that would never transform your spiritual life? How soon have you forgotten that you are a pastor’s child? You now wear trousers, artificial hair, fixing your ...

JESUS IS KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR

Jesus  is Knocking  A sermon preached by Fortune Nwaiwu on Sun. 9th June, 2019. Introduction : There are different varieties of doors. We have interior doors, exterior doors, glass doors, and wooden doors. But in all, the door that Jesus Christ is Knocking on is your very HEART. Heart is a domain of forces, supposedly a dwelling home of God. Jesus is eager and meek to come into your heart and dwell in there to feed you with good thoughts nourishing your soul to keep it secure from danger and sin, and to give it life in abundance but Satan is aggressively fighting to steal it. Jesus Christ says: ‘The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly', John 10:10 NHEB. There are people whose souls have been stolen by Satan with the wealth of this world, and they tend to believe that they have gotten all they want in life. Such people are not only unbelievers but also some church members. Their belief in self-satisfac...

Where is the God of Elijah?

sermon 3.   Where is the God of Elijah? A sermon preached on Friday, 21/12/2018 “Elisha picked up Elijah’s cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah’s cloak and cried out, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” Then the river divided, and Elisha went across”─ 2 Kings 2:13. As you have been here tonight, singing and praising God, the prayers we had made so far have been answered by God. Your needs tonight will be provided for you. Say amen! Our message comes inform of a question, which calls for the expectation of absolute answers. Literary critics may term it a rhetorical question─ a question that doesn’t demand for any answer.   But, for the reason that you are here tonight for Jesus the message will yield positive answers for us. You may have heard many things God did through Elijah, sparing him from the wrath of Queen Jezebel who vowed to kill him by all mean...
