THE ANGELS SENT AHEAD OF YOU

₦Sermon 20
The ANGELS SENT AHEAD OF YOU

“See, I am sending an angel before you to protect you on your journey and lead you safely to the place I have prepared for you” (Exodus 23:20).

Texts: Exodus 23:20, Rev. 5:11 and Gen. 24:7

Glory be to God for us to see the light of the day. It’s a thing so amazing that we are among the people that God woke up today from our terrible and nice sleep. Praise the Lord!

Our today’s message, brethren, will focus on the need to obey God and reap the fruits of joy and divine protections that are in obeying Him. God is not a man that can tell lies. He is the God of all truths and if we follow him, He will not disappoint us.

I remember a story I heard about a young man who gorgeously dressed up to travel. As he was boarding a bus from a motor-park, a mad man came to him in the vehicle and shouted on him: “You mad man, would you come down from the bus!” The young man looked at himself a little while and then looked intently to the right mad man that called him mad man. The passengers in the bus were all booming and hooting with laughter because the mad man’s command sounded so ironic. The mad man left and the young man was still in the bus. Later, the mad man looked back and did not see the young man. He went to the bus and shouted on him with an authoritative voice for the second time: “Mad man, wouldn’t you come down from this casket?” The young man came down from the bus just as the mad-man said.  Just after some minutes the bus took off in its journey.  What was heard is that the bus had a fatal accident and many people died on the spot. What a great and colossal loss!  The young man was saved by the word of a mad man. Remember that the mad man foresaw the danger ahead and prophetically called the bus a casket. Oh yes! It was really a coffin with which many souls were buried with.

What do we have to say? Can we say an angel was sent to the young man in disguise or in form of a mad man? Possibly, God can do things in a way that people may pay less attention to.  But those with spiritual eyes will know that God is passing a serious massage to His people. We do not know how angels look like because we have not seen them unless in dreams and their appearances really differ from one dreamer to another or from one prophet to another. Even, the Israelites did not know exactly how the angel of God which God had promised to send to them would look like but what we know is that God will send his angels to protect us on our journey. Though it has been recorded that Jacob wrestled with an angel of God, that does not mean he can tell us much better how angels of God look like. What I know is that angels can come to us in human form.

Before anybody begins to embark on a journey, he must be well prepared ensuring that he looks so nice before people. This literally means we should always be in-wait for the angel God has promised to send us manifest their miraculous powers in our lives. We must be pure in heart without any contaminable feelings of the heart. We should strictly adhere to God’s instructions and he will direct us to the right path. Thus, let there be no any stumbling blocks, obstacles and hatred that would hinder your angels sent ahead of you.

What are the things that would hinder your angels from performing their pre-planned purposes on you?

As I rightly pointed out before, our problem is majorly rooted in disobedience. If we can obey the word and everything in it; we are said to have perfectly kept the whole of God’s commandments in such a way that when somebody loves, he has kept the whole of the commandments in the scriptures.

The Israelites were forewarned with a condition to be delivered from their enemy nations if really they would obey and pay a rapt attention to the angel. The angel would execute all God’s pre-planned purposes and God himself would be an enemy to the nations that are enemies to His people and oppose those who oppose his chosen people (Ex. 23:22). God also said that his angel would go ahead of them and bring them into the land of the Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Canaanites, Hivites and Jebusites so that His own children would live there. Thus, the angel would help the God’s children to possess the land God has already promised them. We should know that we are weak and should depend solely on God to fight our battles because those neighbouring enemy nations were too strong to conquer by Israelites but all things were possible to them with God.

I don’t know the kind and nature of your journey you want to embark on; it may be a journey to marriage, business, education or trade, so far that you have received Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour; he will send his angels to guide you and lead you to the right destination. What I know is that you will surely possess your possession and all your life aspirations and desires will be fulfilled without you struggling too hard. He has assured you that in your journey he will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone – Psalm 91: 11 – 12. It means on the other hand that we should not be afraid even when a sign of accident is perceived, God will protect you. David says: “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me, thy rod and thy staff they comfort me”— Psalm 23: 4.

Brethren, let us be obedient and courageous to do the will of God and his angels will surely lead us to the beautiful place full of peace, love, security and protections.

 —————Meditation Point——————————

Jehovah my God anywhere I go, may your staff comfort me. May you send your angels to protect me from any harm. This I ask through the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, amen!

Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah’s cloak and cried out, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” Then the river divided, and Elisha went across”─ 2 Kings 2:13.
