The WEAPONS SHALL KILL THE WEAPONERS:
A sermon preached at “A.C.F.M” Umuozoche Igbodo During the Crisis in Etche Land
“He grabbed Goliath’s sword, drew it from its sheath, killed him and cut off his head with it” —1Samuel 17:51 NET.
Glory be to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Our lives are in the hands of our Creator and for this singular fact; we should ascribe all our honour and adoration to the Living God.
My message today will cast out fear from the troubling hearts that are frightened by the weapons of the devil. The scripture says: “No weapon fashioned against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servant of the Lord, and their righteousness is from me says the Lord — Isaiah 54:17 KJV.
Before we proceed, I would like to point out some unintentional omission of the expression, “And every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn”. This very particular expression which is of prime pivotal is mistakenly omitted by the translator of the International Standard version ISV, but other versions like Holman Christian Bible, New English Translation, God’s Word Translation, King James Version Bible and others have it so intact and is documented.
The weapons of devil are devastating and ruinous. By God’s Word from the Isaiah, we deduce the fact that those who carry the weapons of devil shall be smitten by them. Such people that carry the devilish weapons are called here under my coinage weaponers. Christ said to Peter, one of His disciples who was about to take vengeance upon his hand, put your sword back in its place! Everyone who uses a sword will be killed by the sword— Matthew 26:52 NET.
Brethren, when I read this account of Matthew 26:52, I was led to read 1 Samuel 17:51 where with practical circumstances and what is happening today had before now happened in the lives of God’s children in their favour.
The Israelites were frightened by the taunts of a giant Goliath from Philistine. This giant was famous and had war experience for some many years. He had his expensive and sophisticated weapons and fortified himself with some solid armor of war. This made the heart of the children of God to quake. They became afraid of a mere human being but with a consolatory word of encouragement from the scripture which says: “Who is he that saith and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not— Lam. 3:37, David was able to challenge him back with authority from God. He says he will give the dead body of Goliath’s men to the birds and wild animals and the whole world will know that there is God in Israel.
When we think that there is no God, we as the same time saying that we do not exist at all and we’re just like a dead dog. Goliath taunted that he would defy the armies of God’s children. He thought to war against a nation is a matter of being huge and giant and God decided to humiliate him by raising up a young boy. David was a shepherd who guarded his father’s sheep against the lions and bears. He always killed them when they came to devour his watching sheep. God then designed the situation in such a way that David’s father would send him an errand to give his brothers who were in the battle field some food to eat
When David came and heard the taunts of the enemy, he fought with him and it was only a blow and a sling of stone that hurled down the giant. And what does the scripture say? David quickly moved to the lying body of the giant and slain him with his (Goliath’s) sword. Thus, the weapon shall smite or kill anyone that goes or boasts with it. The giant died by his sword confirming the popular adage that says “live by sword and die by sword”.
With a similar chain of connectivity, nothing was found so respectful on the side of Israelites by Haman. When he tried to plan for the death of God’s people, he was impaled with the same object or the plank he had designed to impale Mordecai. The bible says when the matter came to king’s attention, the king gave written orders that Haman’s evil intentions that he had devised against the Jews should fall on his own head— Esther 9:25.
Our king that issues orders against our enemies who lust after our lives is God almighty. He will cause the evil plans of the wicked to fall on their head and God’s people will have the cause to always praise his majestic splendor and glory.
Brethren, no matter the amount of physical or spiritual weapons your enemies are using against you, God will break them and cause them to fall on them. Fear no weapon of war, for God has clothed you with His armor of grace and protection, because those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty – Psalm 91: 1. Keep on trusting God and He’ll show you a way out. God bless you all – Amen.
————Meditation Point—————
LORD, fortify me with all your spiritual armors of grace so that no flying of weapons of evil will touch me and I will say: “There he shattered the arrows, the shield, the sword, and the rest of the weapons of war”— Psalm 76:3, NET.
