THE CHARGES AGAINST HUMANITY

₦Sermon 35

  THE CHARGES AGAINST HUMANITY
“The LORD has brought charges against you saying: There is no faithfulness, no kindness, and no knowledge of God in your land” (Hosea 4:1)

Texts: Hosea 4:1-19, 2 Kings 15:1-10, Chronicle 24:1-21

Our message today will be focusing on the most costly omissions of the essential duties which cause Israelites, on one part, to sin unto God and how we, on the other part, should endeavour to amend our ways. We shall look at the sins that the Israelites or the people of God committed which prophet Hosea foresaw.
The Israelites were charged with national omissions of the most important duties of righteousness. There is no truth or mercy, neither justice nor charity. These neglected aspects of human duties are very important to Jesus Christ. He said to the band of Pharisees: “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy and faith: These ought ye to have done and not to leave the other undone (Matt. 23:23). What Christ means here is that the teachers of religious law  love paying their tithes but other duties for the formation of humanity are neglected because the knowledge of God is not in them. It is believed that where there is no knowledge of God in a nation, truth, mercy, justice and charity will be obviously gone and so the people perish for they do not know God. Mercy is so important to Christ and God (Hosea 6:6) more than our sacrifices. Mercy is more important than paying our tithes. See, when we go to church, contribute money for the church development and without showing mercy, love and charity to people around our environs, God will abhor our sacrifices and worship.
The Israelites made vows and broke them. They vowed to worship God with all their hearts but they broke the covenant. Joshua called them together to decide now the God they would worship and as for him, he would worship God with all his family. Then the Israelites agreed to worship God and thereafter, they broke the covenant and this provoked God to bring charges against them. I don’t know whether you have once in your life made vows to surrender your life to Christ but without fulfilling it. You still remain in your old life, commit adultery, steal your neighbour’s properties and do other violence. This charge is against you if you repent not.
_
These people murder one after another. This is against the sixth commandment of God — Exodus 20:13. By committing this crime of killing innocent souls, everything of the sea creatures disappear, animals and birds also disappear from men because of bloodshed. For this singular fact, they began to point one finger of accusation to another. In verse 5 of Hosea chapter 4, it seems that there were false prophets in the days of Hosea’s ministry rendering all the effort of Hosea ineffectual in the life of the Israelites. Menahem, the son of Gadi murdered Shallum (2 Kings 15:14) and Shallum, the son of Jabesh murdered Zechariah (2 Kings 15:10) and usurped the throne of Israel on the death of Zechariah. The question is who did Zechariah murder if Menahem would murder Shallum and Shallum in turn murdered Zechariah? The incidents really tell us that both Menahem and Shallum were very notorious killers who were full of butchery and violence. But Zechariah is blameless and his blood seems to have been crying to God as Naboth’s did.

The Priests abandoned God and God abandoned them too. See Hosea 6:9. It was at this point that Zechariah announced to the Priests and the people of Israelites of abandoning their God’s commandment and as a result, God abandoned them that they conspired against him, and at the direct orders of King Joash, they stoned him to death in the court yard of the Lord’s Temple (2 Chronicles 24:21). As Zechariah lay dying, he cried out, “May the LORD watch this and, avenge”. Now the Lord has his charges against the people murdering innocent souls. If your people have been murdered, watch out God will avenge for you soon. The most important thing is not to hear our charges and keep calm, but to repent and ask God for forgiveness of sins. Are you guilty of murder; unkindness; and unfriendly with your neighbour? The message is telling you to repent.

——————Meditation Point ————————
May God avenge for the Saints that were murdered for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ and give us his grace to do his will. Amen!

GOD WILL REMEMBER YOU

₦Sermon 18 GOD WILL REMEMBER YOU “Then God remembered Rachel, He listened to her and opened her womb” ——— Gen. 30:22.   Texts: Isaiah 49:15-16, Gen. 8:1-3, Gen. 30:22, Human beings feel that they are being forgotten especially when they are facing trials and tribulations. One thing with our God is that he does not forget his people. He knows the appropriate time to settle our problems; the problem of barrenness, hardship and poverty. To tell us how important we are to him, God says: “See, I have written your name on the Palms of my hands” (Isaiah 49:16). This graphically means that every man’s problem is in the hands of God and which he will never forget to solve the problem of his children. Thus, the true picture of what the Christians are passing through here on earth is always in the mind of God. According to the scripture (Isaiah 49:16) for God to write our name on the palms of his hands means that whatever he has planned  for us shall never be forgotten. We c...

WEEP NO MORE

₦Sermon 54 YOU SHALL WEEP NO MORE “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be more pain for the former things are passed away” —Rev. 21:4 KJV                                                                                                                            Texts: Rev. 21:1-5 Weeping entails the groaning of the inner being which may burst out to crying and shedding of painful and sorrowful tears. This comes to play when someone is emotionally distressed and frustrated because of the terrors, harrows and colossal tragedies that would beset a man. Basically, people at times...

ARE YOU WEIGHED IN THE BALANCES AND FOUND WANTING?

₦sermon 7 (A Sermon Preached by Rev. Fortune Emerence Chinemerem Nwaiwu) “Thou art weighed in the balances and art found wanting” —Daniel 5:27 Bible texts: Judges 19:1-30. God is the Eye that searches man’s hearts and measures them up with their actions to know if they are in the right and accurate balances or found wanting.  When one is not meeting up the desirable requirement of God, such a fellow is found wanting. Belshazzar, the last of the Kings of Babylon, the son of Nabonidus by Nitocris who was the daughter of Nebuchadnezzar and the widow of Nergal-sharezer shows the utmost contempt to the sacred things of God which were taken from God’s temple when Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah.  He organizes a great feast for a thousand of his lords.  Definitely when he testes the wine and realizes that it tastes good, he gives order that the items — the gold and silver cups that his predecessor, Nebuchadnezzar had taken from the temple in Jerusalem be brought to hi...
