THE OPPRESSION MUST CEASE

₦Sermon 30

                    THE OPPRESSION MUST CEASE!
(A sermon delivered at a crusade ground in Umuozoche Igbodo in Etche Rivers State.)

“He will redeem them from oppression and violence, since their
lives are precious in his sight”—Psalm 72:14

      Reading texts: 2 Chronicles 20: 1-21, 1 Samuel 17:1

Our Society is full of oppressors – those that exercise their power and authority over the weak ones. No one cares to execute justice and help the poor even in the law court. This is because we live in a corrupt and wicked society –a society where all sorts of evil immensely flourish, a society where people are always willing to take whatever belongs to the poor, a society where men and women live conjuring evils to their fellows. Tonight, all these forms of oppression must cease in Jesus name, amen!

I would like to firstly point out for you some of the vital incidents that happened in the life of Jehoshaphat particularly the war that ensued between the people of Judah and the Ammonites, Moabites and Mount Seir. These three nations were not destroyed when the Israelites left Egypt but they have come to fight against Judah – 2 Chronicles 20:10. The allied forces wanted to oppress the nation of Judah thereby bringing it to nothing but as a servant of the Most High God, Jehoshaphat acknowledged that the battle wasn’t  for them but of the LORD through the prophecy given by Jahaziel — 2 Chr. 20:14, when they were having fasting and prayers. To cease any oppression against our lives, we need to know God and accept his mighty power to act for us. God promises victory to Jehoshaphat to go to battle field with his people tomorrow. As they were going for the battle, God was with them. Just only a song the children of God were singing – Give thanks to the LORD, His faithful love endures forever — 2 Chr. 20:21 that God moved in action to cause the Ammonites and Moabites to fight against Mount Seir and decimated all their soldiers, and Ammonites in turn came to fight against Moabites and they killed themselves. Then as Jehoshaphat and his people come to the looking out point, behold, everywhere was beleaguered and littered with dead bodies and the children of God took their plunders.

Any kingdom of darkness that is waging war against you and your family shall be oppressed by God — the oppressor of the wicked. Let us allow God to fight for us and let your hand be clean. Don’t be afraid when you hear of war, famine and death, put all your trust in God. Has anyone taunted you, believe me, you are going to cease the oppression in Jesus Name.

Secondly, the oppression of the giant shall cease: Who is that giant that blocks your way for success? Who is that giant that is trying to end your family for nothing? A giant man is nothing when he boasts for his selfish interests, when he puts not his trust in God. Goliath a Philistine Champion tried to smear and disparage the army of God. The Children of God complained of how the Philistine giant has been taunting them, and they don’t live in peace again but in fear. Their mind melted out because of fear of being destroyed by the pagan soldiers, David, the youngest son of Jesse came in to challenge his father land oppressor. The battle was won not with any physical weapon but by the grace of God because David moved with the name of the Living God. He says: “You came to me with sword, spear and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies — the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” — 1 Samuel 17:45. We can make it in life as we have good relationship with God. We can make it when we allow God to use us than allowing human beings because King Saul wanted to use David to fight Goliath by giving him some military wears but David rejected them. He felt uncomfortable to put them on which implies that he gave himself to God to use him and God prepared him with spiritual weapons to disgrace his oppressors.

Goliath came to fight with sword, spear and Javelin. Our enemies are fighting us with  different strategic evil attacks, poison and hindrances but I want you to be rest assured that as you fight them back with the name of Jesus Christ consider yourself a winner, in the name of Jesus, amen!

Thirdly, the oppression of Sickness and Diseases shall cease: “It was he who took our illnesses away and removed our diseases” Matt. 8:17 ISV.  We proclaim to night that as Christ has carried all our pains and healed us, oppression of sickness is gone in our lives; oppression of “Ebola” is ceased. We shall not be harmed by any poison. You shall tread on the scorpion and snakes and they shall not harm you and when you drink deadly things unknowingly, they shall not harm you because God has ceased such oppressions. Are you been oppressed by sickness? Cast out all your worry unto God and he will send his word and heal all your diseases.

Fourthly, the oppression of suffering shall cease! Jabez, a descendant of Judah, whose name means “affliction” cried out to God for a transformation of his life and God granted him that which he requested. God enlarged his coast — 1 Chronicle 4:9-10. Jacob cried for the angel to bless him, to alleviate him from the suffering of deceitfulness, and he was blessed.  Let the oppression of suffering cease in your life in Jesus name, amen.

——————Meditation Point—————
O my GOD, quell down any oppression of sickness, barrenness, suffering and poverty in my life and “deliver me from human oppression and I will keep your precepts”—Psalm 119:134, ISV.

REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE

Remember Who You Are, a sermon preached by Fortune Nwaiwu Introduction A little girl grew under the care of her guardian, Janet, due to she had lost her father, an Anglican priest and her mum could not provide for the family. Before the death of her father, her father called Janet, her guardian, and handed her over to her to take care of her. As this little child was growing, she became very much acquainted with new modern technologies in her guardian’s house, and tended to live a luxurious life, using make ups, fixing her eye lashes, and fingernails. One day, as she dressed up for a night club, and it happened it was her first time to go for the club, Mrs. Janet sat her down and said, “Remember who you are. You were born to a Christian family, and bred in a Christian family too. Why do you tend to live a worthless life, a life that would never transform your spiritual life? How soon have you forgotten that you are a pastor’s child? You now wear trousers, artificial hair, fixing your ...

JESUS IS KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR

Jesus  is Knocking  A sermon preached by Fortune Nwaiwu on Sun. 9th June, 2019. Introduction : There are different varieties of doors. We have interior doors, exterior doors, glass doors, and wooden doors. But in all, the door that Jesus Christ is Knocking on is your very HEART. Heart is a domain of forces, supposedly a dwelling home of God. Jesus is eager and meek to come into your heart and dwell in there to feed you with good thoughts nourishing your soul to keep it secure from danger and sin, and to give it life in abundance but Satan is aggressively fighting to steal it. Jesus Christ says: ‘The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly', John 10:10 NHEB. There are people whose souls have been stolen by Satan with the wealth of this world, and they tend to believe that they have gotten all they want in life. Such people are not only unbelievers but also some church members. Their belief in self-satisfac...

Where is the God of Elijah?

sermon 3.   Where is the God of Elijah? A sermon preached on Friday, 21/12/2018 “Elisha picked up Elijah’s cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah’s cloak and cried out, “Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” Then the river divided, and Elisha went across”─ 2 Kings 2:13. As you have been here tonight, singing and praising God, the prayers we had made so far have been answered by God. Your needs tonight will be provided for you. Say amen! Our message comes inform of a question, which calls for the expectation of absolute answers. Literary critics may term it a rhetorical question─ a question that doesn’t demand for any answer.   But, for the reason that you are here tonight for Jesus the message will yield positive answers for us. You may have heard many things God did through Elijah, sparing him from the wrath of Queen Jezebel who vowed to kill him by all mean...
